History of the Westfield Woman's Club GardenTea
Our annual event is more than a chance dress up, eat delicious scones and wear fancy hats, though we love that part too! The Garden Tea is a celebration of Westfield's people, connection, and the spirit of volunteerism that lives on in our communities.

Sounding an S.O.S.
At the Westfield Woman's Club Annual meeting in April 1998, it was announced that we had insufficient funds to support the Open Door Nursery - a local preschool - with the usual $600 donation. Time was short to fundraise.
With only 6 weeks left in the season, MIriam Reed submitted her idea of an English High Tea to be held at her home on West Road. Miriam - along with family, friends, and the help of the entire Woman's Club - held the tea and it was a great success!

The Tea is a Hit!
Under umbrella tables delicious tea treats were served, croquet and other lawn games were enjoyed, and musical programs added to the delightful atmosphere. To cover expenses, a raffle was held and a substantial donation was made to the Open Door Nursery.
The Tea was held at Miriams's for 4 years and the numbers grew! With the popularity of the event, the Woman's Club decided it would serve as their annual fundraiser, always with the understanding that a minimum of $600 would be set-aside for the nursery.
In 2002 the tea was chaired by Anne MacKay with over 180 guests in attendance!

Tradition Lives On
We outgrew the facilities of Amelia part and moved to the Pavilion at Stanley Park where it is held today.
Sadly, in 2007, the Open Door Nursery Preschool closed its doors. We intend to continue to hold the Garden Tea every June. Today, it is the club's major fundraiser, and money raised will go to the upkeep of the 1920's Club House.
Our Annual Garden Tea is an event that the Westfield Community always looks forward to! After a break during Covid, it is a pleasure to host the event honoring old traditions and welcoming new friends. See you in June!
